We are excited to announce that NoLi CDC is a partial recipient of a grant being made by the Kresge Foundation to the Blue Grass Community Foundation to foster collaboration, support, and growth between the North End and the East End. The grant is for $675,000 spread out over the next 3 years.
Blue Grass Community Foundation has been awarded $675,000 by the Kresge Foundation for cooperative neighborhood building in Northeast Lexington.
The grant is designed to further the efforts in Lexington’s East End and Northside neighborhoods by bringing the two together neighborhoods and capitalizing on the strengths of each. As part of the project, local citizens will plan and develop community activities designed to promote arts, culture, health and better food access in Lexington’s East End and Northside neighborhoods.
Sherry Maddock, East End resident and community volunteer, said, “Now is the time for grassroots collaboration and investment in our neighborhoods. There is so much good to celebrate, so much to build, and so many ways to unite together for the sake of our city.”
“Both of these communities, though underserved and under-resourced, have a rich history and culture, and many committed long-time neighbors and supporters,” said Lisa Adkins, President/CEO of Blue Grass Community Foundation. “Support from the Kresge Foundation will create partnerships and initiatives that will allow these distinct yet adjoining communities to come together and share knowledge, experience and resources to make a better, brighter, more equitable community for all.”
Richard Young, executive director of the North Limestone Community Development Corporation, said, "The Community Foundation has been one of the chief strategic partners for the CDC throughout the past two years. Support from the Kresge Foundation will allow this partnership to continue to flourish, and will ensure that equity is front in center as our work progresses."
The Kresge Foundation is a $3.5 billion private, national foundation located in Troy, Michigan, that works to expand opportunities in America’s cities through grantmaking and investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services and community development.
